| In anticipation of next years engine build, I've been slowly piecing together my mod list and whatnot. The problem is finding a reputable engine builder in the Chicago-land area (preferably.) As some of you know, my car was at Ultimate Z over the summer getting some body and suspension damage repaired due to an accident in June. Now Ultimate Z is the only "reputable" (and I use that term loosely) Z shop in the midwest. While I've never had any problems with them before, the whole 2 months that my car was there was a hand holding process. I had to call every other day to make sure things were done right and whatnot, and then deadlines kept getting pushed back and my overall experience with that shop was far from perfection. Now from what one of the owners told me, they've never done a major engine build like the one I am planning, but they do have a shop that they send their engines out to be done. What would you do? I would optimally like to have my engine build done in the Chicago-land area, and of course I'd like this to be someone that is fairly familiar with the VG30DETT. There is one other shop that I've researched and considered, Sound Performance in Bloomingdale (suburb of Chicago) is mostly a Supra shop, but they've built up RX-7's and one of the owners (or managers, I dont remember) has a built 300ZX. What would some of you that have had major engine builds done recommend? Try Sound Performance, or have my engine built by Kyle @ IPP and have it shipped back to me in Chicago and have either of the 2 shops install it? I am very anal and like everything to be done 110%. Sorry for the long post but I really want this done right the first time.
